I read a post where Intel was going to abandon Slot one on the cacheless Pentium IIs (or maybe all future processors). It seems without the cache they don't need the cartridge and they will just plug the bare processor into the motherboard or just hardwire it to the motherboard. This way they can save about $20.
Anyone heard this?
I don't know which socket they will use but it seems like another nightmare for motherboard makers...
