Keith,

Several posters have commented that this thread has deteriorated into name calling and off topic "blah, blah, blah". They're probably right. However:

<<Whatever you feel about the Communist Party, you have to understand the conditions under which it thrived.>>

It has never thrived in this country except in certain academic circles.

<<Had Big Business been proactive rather than reactive, the Communist Party never would have thrived.>>

If communism worked, it would be thriving today.

Regards, JB

<<<WAY OFF TOPIC>>>

"Many blue-collar workers felt that joining the Communist Party was the only way to exert any power, by uniting in numbers. Whatever you feel about the Communist Party, you have to understand the conditions under which it thrived".

The problem I have is not with the workers, but with the leftist intellectuals (read: "Vanguard of the Proleteriet"). Many of these leftist were young and naive. Lenin called them "useful idiots". Lenin and Stalin were thugs. They moved in and grabbed the reins of the State and crushed anybody that got in the way of their lust for power.

What irritates me is the denial of many leftwing intellectuals and their utter silence in the face of overwehlming evidence of the terror and genocide commited by these communist thugs. When confronted with the stark evidence many "leftist intellectuals" are either silent, or worse attempt somekind of lame apology. Usually along the lines of "omelets and broken eggs".

Those that were young, naive and well intentioned failed to understand what Lord Acton said: "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Or was it Vince Lombardi who said that? Ask Dan, he seems to have a handle on who said what.
