Nope. It would not have kept my father out. He came here on a student visa, quite legally, and got his university degree. During that time, Castro took over Cuba, and my father stayed on a work visa and eventually became a citizen. He also used all of his money to bring the rest of our family over through the legal process. No one came on boats. No one snuck in. Everything was done through legal ports of entry, flying here on planes, filling out paperwork, and applying for asylum. My family was a true asylum case, because Castro stole all of their possessions and several of my family members were put into work camps, because they refused to bow down. Eventually, Cuba let most of the political dissenters go and my father was able to pay for their transport here and help them through the legal processes.

I agree the laws in this country need to be reviewed to make more room for immigrants to come here and work and eventually to become citizens. But Open Borders and free healthcare for any foreigner who wants it is national suicide. The Democrat solutions to these things are the stuff of fantasy land. They are unworkable. Law and order and fairness is what is required for immigration, while protecting the rights of American Citizens, including the right of citizens to not have their taxes squandered on people who have not paid into our system. There is no free lunch for anyone. My father didn't get a free lunch. He paid for everything for himself and his family, just like every good American should.
