They are my friends, because we've been friends for decades and there was a time in this country when Democrats and Republicans were able to have different opinions and still be friends and civil to each other. I openly disagree with this particular friend and caution her that racism against white people can only lead to very bad places, but these political disagreements don't come anywhere close to ending our friendship. Our kids grew up together and we have beers together frequently. We are all hopeful all the insanity will pass, but I think she's more hopeful than me, mostly because she believes her ideas will win and we'll have a more free wheeling easy lifestyle country. She listens to me, because of my family's history and real experience with these things, but I have not been able to convince her to change her mind. I've watched her become more hyper liberal in the last few years, but that is a product of the environment she is in. I imagine there's intense peer pressure to embrace the craziest aspects of liberal ideology. Sounds like you're talking about basically one crazy woman.I admit that I'm getting pushed farther to the right as well. We've actually talked about this phenomenon. The crazier the left gets, the more I feel like I have nothing in common with them and I have to be more strident in my objection to their ideas. She feels the same way. So the country polarizes bit by bit and the media amplifies it. And the President amplifies it.
