"FDR's arm was twisted."

Sorry, that's NOT the basis on which an American President is supposed to act.

In addition I don't actually believe that line because, IMO, and based on his "manipulative" strategy that he adopted with his interactions with Japan, there was no love lost between himself and Japan.

According to my understanding of the events that Roosevelt "orchestrated", he wanted to get the USA into the War against Germany. Unfortunately for him, whenever he went to the American people via Congress about "assisting" Britain they told him "No". So he then "picked a fight" with Japan, a war ally with Germany, banking on the nature of the Japanese who would most likely retaliate.
This they eventually did and sent a carrier fleet to Pearl Harbour.

As it happened British Intelligence had already broken the Japanese naval code and had informed the Americans about this convoy heading to Pearl Harbour.
Pearl Harbour was the only American base that was not alerted to this impending disaster and were sitting ducks when the Japanese aircraft decimated the base.

It did not take Roosevelt wrong to announce his "Day of Infamy" speech in Congress and thereby receive the enthusiastic Go-Ahead from Congress to declare war on Germany and Japan.

"It's unfair to blame him for signing that executive order."

IMO Roosevelt knew EXACTLY what he was signing, and Why.

One must remember that the Germans had drawn up a Non-aggression Pact with Russia to give Stalin a "false sense of security" and ensure that he did not start building up his military. The Germans did that because they first had to secure their Western flank, which is why they went into top gear and sorted out the French and others. Once land-based Western Europe was under their control, they tore up the Pact and turned Eastwards to Russia, which was their ultimate goal all along.

FAKE NEWS isn't, in fact, the "Modern Phenomenon" that some may have come to believe it is .....
