Colin Powell, perhaps, sees it as the same. Was he aware that Obama had held himself out as Kenyan born for 15 years? Was he? That makes a big difference. Most people, even today, have no idea that occurred. If you are promoting yourself as Kenyan born for 15 years, you cannot suddenly change and expect people to just say, "Oh, well, he must have been wrong." That is something that needed to have been explained -- and Obama should have been called to account for the lie. Had he been, and had he copped to it, it could have either left him inoculated or (unlikely) shown him to be self-promoting with lies and shut out of the presidency.
