Elijah Cummings just gave away when Donald Trump’s impeachment is going to happen
Bill Palmer | 9:09 am EDT August 4, 2019 Palmer Report » Analysis

With a growing majority of House Democrats now publicly in favor of impeaching Donald Trump, and the House Judiciary Committee having already opened a low-key impeachment inquiry, it’s a matter of time before impeachment happens. The big question has been when it’ll finally start. Palmer Report has suggested watching the chairs of the big three House committees closely for clues, and one of them just offered a big one.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings just said this to a group of reporters: “There may be a time where impeachment is appropriate. One of the lines for me is when and if the administration disobeys court orders. Then we have no choice, so we will see.” Why does this matter?

House Democrats have spent months fighting legal battles to obtain the evidence and testimony required to put on a convincing impeachment hearing. It’s been a fair guess that they’ll begin impeachment once they win those court battles. But now Elijah Cummings is strongly implying that as soon as the courts rule against Trump on impeachment-related matters, they’ll go ahead and use that as a premise for impeachment hearings.

If you’re looking for more clues about Donald Trump’s impeachment going forward, continue to pay attention to the words and actions of House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff. They’re driving the impeachment train behind the scenes as much as Speaker Nancy Pelosi is.
