Imaginary dude who floats around in the sky and grants wishes? The dude who is going to burn everyone who does not believe in him? The vindictive, unstable, irrational, rapist, neurotic god depicted in the bible? The god who rewards folks loyal to him and takes out vengeance on those who do not? A god so insecure, so shallow, that he tortures what he created in his image? Why bring him into this? The god you speak of is less rational than Trump and has done nothing to deserve anyones respect. Last time he had a tantrum he flooded the whole planet - expecting help from a whack job like this is insane.

Keep to the focus of the thread and keep your imaginary dude in the sky out of this discussion.

Rather than talking about your unprovable and untestable fantasies- let's talk about what we can do to really prevent gun deaths. Because prayers have done shit.

<Physicists acknowledge the existence of Dark Matter in the Quantum Realm>

This is an all-too-common type of misrepresentation - physicists measure Dark Matter as a factual deviation. It has been measured for a long time - actually since the 1920's - all other explanations had been ruled out and it is in no way God-like or mysterious - it is more like an undiscovered island. The name "Dark" means it simply doesn't interact with matter through anything other than gravitation forces. Undiscovered islands don't have properties that defy science - they have properties that haven't been observed yet. But we can forecast that they will be made of rocks and dirt and not fairy dust.

I will grant you there is a palliative aspect for people of faith - I personally would like to think that my dead mother is somewhere contributing to the universe in some way other than my memory of her. But my desire is not material for you or me. Nor will I offer it as any sort of truth.

Let me be clear - your personal belief is your inalienable right - but public profession of a faith-based point of view is subject to fact checking for BS. For those of us who don't have belief - it appears to be an impediment to accepting facts and is wishing that things are different than they really are. To me - it is insulting to issue "thoughts and prayers" for someone shot by a device invented by humans and purchased from manufacturers. There is nothing divine in the execution of another human being.

Just because someone can't see or feel something doesn't mean it DOES exist.

Become agnostic, it's the only true path. Acknowledge your own ignorance. I don't really know anything about that question, and neither do you. If you feel you do, you're simply deluding yourself.

I like this God:

Where was god during the last 15,000 years of civilization which was a horror show compared to modern times when gods had control of peoples lives?

Today humans finally wrested control of god, and took over the job of protecting people with democracy and the rule of law and our lives have NEVER been better.

<,
The power of Prayer is the Strongest Force in the Universe in my humble opinion.

It might sound crazy to some but even the best Physicists acknowledge the existence of Dark Matter in the Quantum Realm. Just because one can not see or feel something does not mean it doesn't exist.

All things are possible in Gods Universe

everyone has a right to their beliefs, after all these killings its always thoughts and prayers, thats clearly not working, it irritates me to see athletes after a win look up and make the sign of the cross or say that god made the difference in the game, if there was a god he doesn't give a rats ass about human suffering why would he care about some stupid game, anyway its man who can change things, no amount of wishing and praying will ever do it.

while I am a cynic of organized religion I have no problem with your beliefs, if they are structured for good and positive, as I'm sure they are

but let's get rid of Trump first and go from there

Obama was great at bringing people together and healing wounds at these times

there was nothing phony here

The power of Prayer is the Strongest Force in the Universe in my humble opinion.

If that is true, people should go to pray, certainly not to a Doctor or clinic. Health Insurance crisis is solved.

Medical students should read the bible instead a SCIENCE BASED medical textbooks and journals. And prescribe a prayer instead of heart medication. We never needed no Jonas Salk.

And those European Jews just didn't pray hard to the right God enough to stop the death camps.

The savage Native Americans... the lucky slaves... the children molested by Priests and Scoutmasters; didn't use that "Strongest Force in the Universe.

Religion has a place for some people. Religion has enabled much good through history, and way too much Evil (with a capital E.)

When it comes to improving the real world it requires human processes that are inherently political and reasoned through experience and observable replication.

Please define 'force."
