Aside for the persistent, sort of nagging background noise of intellectual property theft, the pre-Trump policy on China revolved around opening the door as wide as possible without much or any concern for negative side-effects, because the big US corporations saw it as a huge opportunity to expand and potentially make a boatload of $$'s. This pendulum is swinging back because the imagined boatload of $$'s going to US corps ended up being a canoe load of $$'s.

What surprises me is that so many liberals want to go back to this because they have bought into the idea that flinging the door wide open and importing cheap goods is ALWAYS good for the little guy even if the guy you are importing from doesn't reciprocate.

For them, just a quick reality check, imagine a world where US doors were flung wide open both on goods and immigration. What would the end result be? Hint: the US is one of the richest countries in the world with one of the highest standards of living...
