Paul:
Many of the government agencies have not yet been able to get
billions of $ of computer systems to work yet. Need a Presidential
commission to solve yr2k problem( Committee no good, just argue over which state gets the bucks)
Mr. C too busy handing out bucks to SEA, defending lawsuits.
Put B.Gates in charge ,but he is probably too smart to take job.
The usual political response won't cut it(lock barn after horse stolen, stick finger in leaking dike, chase robber after bank is held up, clobber Saddam after hes sacked all of Kuwait)
So big store chain is OK internally, start computer talk with suppliers not updated and POOF, major problem.
Can't think of an equivalent world problem, perhaps metric
conversion an example but that took decades.
Going to take some major changes in cooperation of world leaders who so far can't even agree on dress code.
One way is to cut off all Web traffic to country not updating
files, but that goes beyond our own goverments desire but inability to control web traffic.
I have the solution to all this, leave the job to the new
President AL GORE, but take money out of market before doing that
