I think AOL will be of value in this way: they have subscribers. TWX needs subscribers. I could see a buyout of AOL by TWX with partners. TWX needs partners because they have a much leveraged balance sheet. But if they got some telephone partners to lay co-strung cable in their r.o.w., they could offer an alternative to the TCI, Cox, etc.-ATHM axis. I suspect something like this will happen because the current situation will evolve into a total monopoly by the axis. Similarly, I could see the axis buying Earthlink. The war will be fought between competing cable systems, not between DSL and cable.
