Technology Stocks : THREE FIVE SYSTEM (TFS) - up from here? -- Ignore unavailable to you. Want to Upgrade?

I recently attended a small meeting where the speaker used a
projector and may I say, was I ever excited. I had never
seen one in person before. I pointed out to
a few of my friends that TFS is involved in that type of technology and
I actually felt a bit giddy knowing that I own a piece of a company
involved in really cool stuff.

On another note, did anyone think that we might have a sequentially
flat quarter based upon the insinuation that this quarter will only account for 19% of total year revenues, with revenues accelerating
later in 1998? I hope that that doesn't mean that the stock
will be stuck in neutral until later in the year, or worse (yikes) sell off.
Personally, I am very pleased with this company and believe the 12 month target should be at least 30 (assuming earnings of a buck this year and a forward PE of 30). Nevertheless, strange things have happened before.

This is the core market for projectors, and prices will continue to fall and open that market wider. Now, for $2000 you only get an SVGA projector which doesn't hold up to roomlight. In 2-3 years, everything you want today (XGA, 500+ Lumens) will be available for $2000 and better machines (SXGA, UXGA, 1000+ Lumens) will occupy the high end nearer $10k, and in 2-3 more, the sub-1000 projector market will blossom. Sound at all like the PC industry?

That's why my money is on the big guy (INFS), and not the newer entrants. That's also why I hope INFS can stave off the Japanese. This industry will be more about distribution and economy of scale in the future, and a few companies will flourish ala HP, Compaq and Dell, and the rest will reside in niches, best case. TFS may find a role OEMing their LCD/Si, but not until they can show its better than TI's DMD or IBM/JVC's LCD/Si.

I like what you described. The only thing that has kept me from using the electronic presentations is the size/weight of the existing combination of PC/projector, and the cost of the projectors. The weight and volume is a sigificant factor if you have to travel, even from a car to a conference room. I think the trends are favorable in all of these areas with the microdisplays and the potential market may actually begin to be realized with even modest improvements in cost and weight. This is out-and-out opinionating, but I know they would make a difference for me.

Right now, I do all my presentations in electronic form. But I then translate them to overhead transparencies because of the inconvenience and the lack of ubiquity (?) of projectors compared to say overhead projectors. -- JimA
