You are wrong in regard to saying that it makes no difference wether it is Democrat or Republican in White House in relation to China. Whether rightly or wrongly, Biden is pro trade and would look to make deal with China.
I am a progressive and liberal and find no Democrat who suits my views. Perhaps Tulsi Gabbard, but she is not a realistic possibility to win nomination.
As a full time swing trader, I can't vote for Sanders because I don't want to be paying him for my trades. The other leading Dems are not the real deal.
I am leaning toward voting for gridlock: Trump for President and Congress for Democrat ( including Senate). I don't like policies on either side of aisle.

China is waiting this out because she knows Biden would be more friendly and he is currently leading in the polls, which are not reliable.
