Gilder has to be talking about graphene which seems to have dropped from the limelight at bit of late.

Graphene is a manufactured product made of a single atom of graphite. Mined graphite is a readily available and a very cheap material. Graphene not to much. As well as cost, there are also issues with oxidation which affect conductivity. The answers under "People also asked" address many of the issues.

I suspect commercialization in any manner and especially as a semiconductor material is still away off.
