John, I haven't been able to confirm the release date. Read it in a news story that said the date came from AMZN's Web site, but neither I nor Don could find it there. If they wait for audited numbers, it could be a couple more weeks, but I think YHOO didn't wait for their auditor's blessing, so they could announce sooner. Haven't tried calling AMZN's IR.

As for any "surprise", it looks like this recent run back up from $50 is an earnings (should we just say "revenue"?) anticipation move that turned into a short squeeze (especially yesterday, breaking above $60). Would any number be enough to sustain the move once it's out? And what if Don is right that higher sales means wider losses? Zack's has the consensus at -44 cents for the Q.

As you know, the "norm" these days in the general market is for runs on "whisper" numbers followed by drops on the release, even if the company beats the consensus.

But hey, who knows. It certainly won't be dull.

Bob

PS: If someone told you 3 yrs ago that Duke's leading scorer and starting center would be out for the season and Duke would go to #1, how loud would you have laughed? Can't wait for Feb 5.
