Peter, Talk about capitulation. Nixon resigned right at the bottom of the bear:

Nixon resignation dragged out for months while house debated
bill of impeachment. I watched it all, and was heavily invested
at the time and watched the markets closely.

Funny thing is, all I can remember is a tremendous contraction
of volume. Like NYSE 19-million share days. Total volume.
I know, I must be dreaming (nightmares!), but that's what I
remember. I don't remember a lot of volatility, which I
probably would have if it had been extreme. However, you
must remember this was near the bottom of a bear market; not
the top of a protracted bull.
