Jay: I think you will find that there are as many different setups as there are traders. Better to determine what is right for you. Check out the Final Frontier links to get some ideas on some of the better options available to you:

All good internet based remote firms now offer level 2 quotes.

Average ticket charges run from 20 - 30 dollars per ticket.

Many Day Traders still trade from offices but the trend IMHO is towards remote trading . Here's why:

1) Internet based data feeds are now very reliable and MUCH cheaper than previous systems using direct lines.

2) Trading from home offers more convenience.

3) Many internet resources offer remote traders the opportunity to communicate with one another and share ideas.

4) Many internet resources offer traders the research that was not currently accessible outside of brokerage offices.

1) I trade through Schwab 500 - Web trading.
2) I get infinite real time quotes over telebroker or the web.
They do not offer level II quotes.
3) The charge is $29.95 up to 1000 shares plus .03 over 1000.
4) I trade from home.
5) Pro: I get all the customer service I want or need at no charge.
Pro: I get unlimited realtime quotes (schwab 500 only).
Con: Telebroker is only 28% discount over regular rates.
Con: Time consuming getting from quote lists to trading screens.
