But the son surely frustrates Fox News viewers with his odd takes on the news. He had another Chris Wallace Moment last night. President Trump on Friday ordered U.S. companies to seek suppliers outside of Red China. Wallace told viewers , "As best I can tell, the American president can’t order U.S. companies how they’re going to do their sales and where they’re going to have their supply chains. "We have a free market, capitalist system. I don’t think a president can order a car company to move some of its factories from one place to another. "He could impose tariffs or make it economically untenable. But he can't sit there and order the CEO or the board -- and my guess is most people in this country wouldn't want to see the president be able to do this." Now that is a logical take if you believe the president does not know what he is doing. But if three years into the Trump presidency you still believe The Donald is impulsive and out of control, then you have not learned from the many times he showed Washington's assumptions to be untrue. Need I remind anyone of how the press howled "without evidence" when he said Obama wiretapped him? They beclowned themselves. Wallace should have done some homework before he went on the air to offer his opinion because Wallace turned out to be wrong. President Trump indeed has the power to order this. He tweeted today, "For all of the Fake News Reporters that don’t have a clue as to what the law is relative to Presidential powers, China, etc., try looking at the Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977. Case closed!" Reuters reported last night, a short time after Wallace's statement on TV , "Trump could treat China more like Iran and order sanctions, which would involve declaring a national emergency under a 1977 law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act." This power was granted Democrat President Carter by a Democrat Congress. After forcing Nixon out in 1974, Democrats thought they would rule Washington for 40 years. Not so. Not only did Reagan win the presidency in 1980 but Republicans took over the Senate for the first time in 22 years. Reuters also pointed out the 1971 Trading With The Enemy Act is still in force. Laws are permanent. I measure Congress not by the laws they enact, but by the laws they eliminate. No Congress has met my standard. Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole came close to leading one in the 1990s. As for Wallace, he needs to start respecting President Trump's intellect. He is a very sane genius.
