OFF TOPIC:

Rob,

You must be reading the "new" history that I understand some of out schools are teaching these days. I may be the only one that lurks on this thread that was there. If we had invaded Japan as was planned, the ship I was on would have had less than a 50% chance of surviving. Truman saved the lives of millions and probably mine. I don't think there is any doubt that an attempt to win the war with a blockade would have taken additional years and resulted in far more lives lost. So called conventional bombs kill as well and they can't distinguish the good guys from the bad. Neither does starvation. And, since when are civilians innocent and soldiers guilty. Both do their part and few because they like war. I don't think the people that worked in our factories and shipyards during the war thought of themselves as doing less than they could.

Your comments don't make me as angry, as they make me sad. But, one of the things the war was about was the preservation of your freedom to express your views, no matter how distorted I may find them to be. One last comment, the view that we should hate or distrust the Japanese or the Germans or those of any other nationality because our countries were at war in the past is as disturbing as your view of WWII.

Regards,
Larry Smith

Rob,
The war is not just between Japan and USA. Japanese occupied most of the E. Asia. They were killing and slaving the locals. If they do not surrender... a lot more people besides Americans will be killed. Just think about it. Dropping A bombs were the best and and the quickest way to stop bloodsheding. Do you know how many millions of Asians were killed during the war, besides those Japanese? What was the gold prices during the war? I am trying to stick to the gold topic.

Sincerely,
Wade
