I submit that is was not the 0.01 shortfall that caused SLB to tank, but this quote from their press release:

"Our clients have budgeted a further increase in E&P spending of 10% in 1998. However, their plans may be modified when the impact of the economic problems in Asia on oil demand can be evaluated."

BTW, my SLB is still up 37%.
