If you look on the surface, where people live, 2014 was the warmest year in 2014. In 2015, it became the 2nd warmest year. After '16, it was the 3rd warmest year. When '17 ended, it was the 4th warmest. If you guessed that '18 pushed it down to number 5, congratulations. It will only hold that position until 1/1/20, at which point it will fall to #6.
