9/6/2019 Contest update
Despite a decent week for the broad market, the biotech sector faltered. Nonetheless, our stalwart Contest median still managed to climb a couple of percent.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.37% YTD (vs. up 10.33% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 5.54% YTD (vs. up 6.28% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 10.21% YTD (vs. up 11.54% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 22.12% YTD (vs. up 20.01% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio held on to first place with a 86.61% YTD gain, but with a much diminished lead. ANDRE’s portfolio, up 58.43% YTD, and OHMS’ portfolio, up 56.27% YTD, remained in second and third place. (Even if Bulba’s portfolio continues to lose ground, I pledge to never boost its performance with a sharpie.)
At Friday's close, 29 of the 39 Contest portfolios were now in the green, while 24 were now beating the NBI and 21 were now beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 16.18% and, moving back into negative territory, a median YTD loss of -0.15%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & relaxing post-Labor Day weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
