Mr. Aloha and all,

Bill Angus confirmed your view of ASMLs motivation for selling its CYMI stock during the first half of 1997. I talked to Mr. Angus today and asked him specifically about the ASM sale. He indicated that it was simply an opportunity for them to take a profit in an investment which they could then apply toward their own expansion plans in the Netherlands. I also asked him if the Nikon and Canon stakes in CYMI were still intact, and he stated that they are.

On another subject, I asked him if there were any Lambda Physik or Komatsu lasers actually installed in steppers anywhere. He indicated that Cymer had replaced some Lambda and Komatsu 1st generation lasers that had been installed in steppers about 2 years ago because they were performing poorly. He expects that the two will make a second attempt this quarter--presumably this means shipping samples to stepper companies for evaluation but this was not said explicitly.

If you ask me, it sounds like ASMLF management are really shrewd investors. The Warren Buffet of tech stocks.
