On Netflix: Two other films I adore are "the Rookie Historian" and "Romance Is A bonus Book". Both are South Korean films, my favorite films. The first one "Rookie Historian" is an historical drama about the dawn of women's rights in South Korea. This is a very common theme in South Korean films and the women there are playing hard ball in that male dominated society to bring it down. The birth rate continues to fall and is now one of the lowest in the world as the "highly educated' women are refusing to marry and have children with the unenlightened males and they are working to correct that. Bu as important is that they are such 'beautiful movies", like so many South Korea movies are. IMO they have the best actors in the world and their movies are more beautiful and more intelligent than any other country. They are so polished in every aspect, acting, casting, cinematography and sophistication of dialogue and depth of emotions. I loved these films. The second one is about a book publishing company and is sort of a soap opera, but as is usual in South Korean films the level of dialogue is comparable to books like Camus the stranger and Gunther grasses The Tin drum, etc They routinely entertain existential dilemmas and introspection of right and wrong. Many Asian societies have philosophy and introspection as an integral part of their culture woven throughout, so intellectual pondering and personal introspection is something that is done routinely. And something the entire world needs to learn. But above all, for these two movies, and many others I have seen, is how exquisitely beautiful they are. Polished to perfection with so much beauty, and profoundness both emotionally and intellectually that they are a delight to watch. The directors of these movies are presenting an ideal, I know, but it is an ideal that gives us something to aspire to. The very fact they can produce them says people are aware of a better way to live. IMO. .
