Compliment and complement? Good ones! How about disparate and desperate?

In answer to a post just south of this one, asking at what point a sore thumb sticks out and becomes noticeable, I am inclined to agree with that sentiment. The long finger--sore or otherwise--well, that's another thing. <vbg>
