I shoulda been clearer....he has worked at the 3 companies during different times over the last 20 years and I'm assuming that from the order in which the 3 were listed, CPQ was the most recent. S.

Compaq is only 16 year old as you said correctly. You can work for "Compaq" for 20 year. Tandem is 23+ years old. When Tandem was purchased by Compaq, all employees retain their years of services. So someone in Tandem may say they worked for Compaq for 20 years. A little interesting twist.
