Unfortunately I don't think that would work. Partially because the criminals won't respect the law and some of them will have guns to use against you and your chainsaw. Partially because unless you are cutting up a lot of wood, or are just about to, or have just finished doing so, the authorities in the UK might go after you for having a chain saw, and very likely would go after you hard if you used it in self defense. Although I figure you already realized that and were just joking. A few years back they prosecuted a woman for using knitting needles in self defense.
