Let's say a Pentium II costs $105 to make. Posted that estimate a while back from Dataquest.
So with $20 for the cartridge and $20 for the cache subtracted that leaves a cost of $65. Given better manufacturing efficiency and smaller die (correct me if I am wrong) on .25u process that drops the price even further. Assuming Intel has something up it's sleeve concerning the cachless design vs speed...then I think they are in good shape on delivering a Pentium II for a <$1000 PC. Provided they price it agressively. Then where are the margins and how does this compare to the AMD K6-3d which we can assume will be priced agressively as well...
Again, Intel must have something up their sleeve concerning the cache...any ideas?
