Maybe this is where the layoff rumor came from: ----- Microsoft Corp.'s localized information and directory venture confirmed it will reduce staff by about 20 percent and expand the number of cities it serves by almost 400 percent this year. The staff reductions in the 10 markets where Sidewalk operates now reportedly do not affect editorial or contract content producers They are focused on advertising, business development and production staffers, according to the New York Daily News. ----- I saw in my email that they are laying off contractors as well as, I think it was 3 full time employees, but I deleted it and can't find it again. Exactly, Addi. MSFT is not laying off people. But people are leaving MSFT. I have a lot of college friends work over there. Some as contractors and some as permanent employees. For permanent employees, working there for 5 years burn them out very quick. They told me the average work week is about 55 hours in MSFT. So after 5 years, they exercise their stock options, which generally range from 200K - 1M, depends on how good a programmer they are and when do they exercise their options. Most of them start their own software companies using the stock option money. The general theory is, once you get the option exercised, why keep working 55 hours a week for MSFT? That is why they have to hire more people each year.
