9/20/2019 Contest update
The NY Times reported an estimated 4 million marchers on every continent took to the streets Friday demanding action to to preserve the health of the planet by combating climate change. Marchers were predominantly young people but geezers joined in. And this geezer, inspired by all the youthful energy, managed to schlep along down Market Street in San Francisco. Meanwhile biotechs spent the week marching back and forth, winding up pretty much where they began. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.75% YTD (vs. up 13.17% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.84% YTD (vs. up 7.62% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 14.66% YTD (vs. up 14.17% a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 22.34% YTD (vs. up 23.23% YTD a week ago).
BULBA’s portfolio lost some ground, but remained Contest leader with a 95.59% YTD gain. Second place ANDRE’s portfolio had a good week and is now up 60.73% YTD. Benefitting from the week’s top gainer, LXRX, ARTHUR’s portfolio, up 53.21% YTD, jumped into third place.
At Friday's close, 30 of the 39 Contest portfolios were now in the green, while 24 were now beating the NBI and 17 were now beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 17.11% and a median YTD gain of 5.13%.
