VCD units 1998--Alex says comfortably above 20 million units. I like the fact that inventory levels are below this time 1996 and end of December are below beginning of December--a lot different than going into 1997. I also like direct VCD sales to largest Asian customers rather than through distributors. Alex also noted that the product in China is viewed as $100 product. This is a lot different than hoping your sales of $20,000 autos will hang in there in the event of downturn. Barton Biggs (usually a bear, but recdently converted to the bull camp) on CNBC today suggested the Asia Pacific crisis has more than been factored into the US market and that crisis may actually be a positive for US companies.
