The Toshiba relationship is significant not only for the direct economic benefit to CUBE, but also because it is a tacit acknowledgement by Toshiba of the superiority of CUBE's technology and implementation. Toshiba was one of the early players with MPEG2 chipsets. Smart move by Toshiba. It can eliminate a lot of R&D development expenses related to MPEG2/DVD/settops, and work on integrating CUBE's work with its own systems. It's a good strategy for leapfrogging Toshiba's competitors, who are mired down in their internal efforts to develop MPEG2 encoding and decoding.
