"I can't see IBM or Seagate becoming major % suppliers to the independent DD manufacturers"

I agree. Think of it as my supplier competing with me. He gets some of the business by selling to me, OR, all of the business by selling against me.

Regards,

Dave Chanoux

Spots,
Seagate has already inferred they are dropping efforts to sell heads or media. IBM has been such an on again / off again supplier of heads and media that they have difficulty gaining any credibility in the business. It is just untenable to be reliant on a competitor for heads or media, which, IMHO, represent where the real rubber meets the road in disk drive design and performance.
Best,
Stitch
