Stehekin912 Our Founders were acutely aware that the success of our form of government requires that most of us - including and especially our representatives in Congress - must have honor, integrity and honesty. Adams' famous quote: "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people." While some could reasonably argue that being "religious" is not necessary, I think it is understood that he means people guided by "higher" morals, values and principles.
