I usually put Linux on the same drive as Windows, which I do for convenience. Sometimes I need a file from Windows in Linux. Btw, I can also access Linux files using Windows but as you say I can encrypt them if I want. I get a kick out of all the login screens on both that can be easily bypassed by using a different operating system.

As I said, the latest Windows bug is using a Linux flash drive to access Windows, not just files, but the entire operating system, including the desktop, background, everything....without logging in.

I needed Linux from a flash drive and did it by accident. Pulled out the drive and Windows booted to the Desktop without a login.
