Gateway names AT&T's Weitzen president

January 22, 1998 05:39 PM

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., Jan 22 (Reuters) - Gateway 2000 Inc said Thursday it named AT&T Corp T Jeffrey Weitzen president and chief operating officer, filling a vacancy that has existed since the July departure of Richard Snyder.

Gateway said Weitzen, who was executive vice president of AT&T's business markets division and a member of the company's senior management team, will be responsible for directing the company's sales and marketing divisions, manufacturing, engineering and worldwide business operations.

Weitzen, who will report to chairman and chief executive Ted Waitt, was also elected to Gateway's board.

Weitzen joined AT&T in 1980, a spokeswoman for that company said. He had held his current title since December 1996.

AT&T said it had no immediate plans to name a replacement for Weitzen.
