Liberals, by and large, don't want free stuff, they want a well functioning humane society like we see in the Nordic countries and as taught in every sociology and public policy university in the world, really. There is a science of social systems and the Democrats want to follow the science and the Republicans deny it even exists. Just like they deny evolution and global warming. The pubs have this nutso idea that a well functioning society will grow out of pure capitalism organically. <, Everyone wants something from the government. The rich want tax cuts and a lot of loopholes, the rancher wants to graze his cattle on government land, the baker doesn't want to make a cake for a gay couple (because Christ taught him to hate), and the poor guy wants a few pennies to feed his baby some milk. But how do we pay for it? Given a choice between getting everything free and passing debt to my generation, most people want free stuff and forcing us to pay for it. I suppose I'd want the same if I were them. Who doesn't want free stuff?
