One data point: Beyond Meat isn't very popular out here in the conservative eastern part of the state...but that may have something to do with the fact they are mostly ranchers...(g).

I was looking at the peas that go into Beyond Meat. We used to grow an Austrian Winter Pea on the farm in the northwest many years ago. I believe that may be the same basic yellow pea variety. They were grown primarily for bird feed (pigeons) back then. And the inferior ones..what we called the screenings..went to hogs. Hogs and pigeons. Now they are the food of the future. Who knew??!! I will have to say they are healthy. Related to lentils which I like.

Peas are an excellent farm crop...good for the soil...good root structure helps prevent erosion. Another crop coming back is hemp....not for smoking but for construction material. There's a big circle of it next to some grazing land I just got. It's another draught tolerant, good plant to grow. Was stupidly banned for many years.
I'm all in favor of seeing farmers diversify away from being totally corn and soybeans dependent.
