They don't fart much once they're on the grill, you notice eh ... the enviro-cost comes before that though, it's not just a few of us munching on the natural increase of grass-fed beef, there are massive quantities involved ... part of the big three Cs they say - cars cattle and chainsaws ... actually there are other Cs with cows that can get quite personal - cholesterol, cardiac conditions, colitis, etc

en.wikipedia.org - there is no question that we are radically altering this planet, and all of a sudden - couple hundred years since Watt's engine, that's like the blink of an eye compared to the half million or so years human-like critters have been around, which in turn is like the blink of an eye to the rocks we stand on ... it's all going very fast, rate of change continuing to increase, and there's nothing in our evolutionary history that prepares us very well for what's to come

I refuse to argue on this topic because it's pointless, people just fire the same old cherry-picked talking points back and forth, few ever admit anything that flaws their argument and nobody ever changes attitude significantly

But in lurking, i often wonder - how far out is this person looking? ... do they have kids? ... grandkids, or expecting some? .... for how many years ahead do they give a damn, compared to their regard for immediate personal comfort, profit, or titillation? ... once in a while i turn that back on self, and realise oh shit, well i'll have mine medium rare, but only a small one, and get serious later ...

If animal husbandry is such a contributor to global warming, should we not also be looking to limit rice farming? It is among the worst polluters in this regard. But here too using science to change how we grow rice (see below) may be of more value than limiting the production of a staple that is critical to so many less well off nations around the globe. Perhaps, we can also be use science to lessen the volume and frequency of cows farts instead of eliminating cows, assuming they are a problem in the first place.
