>>>I am not able to imagine that Microsoft will be five times bigger in a little over five years. I expect to get flamed pretty bad now (which is why I don't often visit this thread) --bring em on!

Thread: However mis-guided and naive Mike appears, his lack of faith *is* matched by his bravery. I vote we let him live. Besides he'll punish himself enough watching MSFT's performance over the next five years..

>>Do you expect that world demand for Microsoft
products will grow at that rate, or that MSFT
can grow it's business at that rate?

Yes and yes.

First, the enterprise market for OSes is roughly $80B this year of which Microsoft has a mere 5% stake. If Microsoft can grow that to 20% then they will have $16B. If they can grow it to 40% then they will have $32B. Having 40% market share is not out of the question in 5 years.

Databases is another area where Microsoft is growing be leaps and bounds. Notice that Oracle is not doing so hot lately? Listen to their lame excuses? The real reason is that Microsoft is stealing their business.

Small business have not played a larger role in the PC revelution and account for only 15% of PC sales. Microsoft can easily grow that to 50% and more in 5 years.

Two years ago Microsoft was making nothing off of the Internet. This year they are making close to $400M. With E-Commerce expected to go to $200B in 2001, Microsoft will own a good chunck of that.

WebTV will be here sooner than you think. They already have a deal with TCI and something going with Ameritech and ADSL. It is only a matter of time before it all explodes.

And the list of new markets goes on and on.

The bottom line is that there is a lot room left for growth and I can easily see Microsoft at between $40-50B 5 years from and STILL growing at 25-35%. The information age is just beginning and it is going to be bigger than anyone (except Microsoft) anticipated. And knowing Bill, he will be a major player in it.

Heck, some estimates state that Microsoft will make $20B from NT alone by the year 2001!

By the way, this is not a flame, it merely states the facts.
