What determines the drug prescribed: Obviously efficacy is extremely important however other factors must also be considered. How clean the labeling is considered a great percentage of the patients are in an older age group and are on a variety of meds. Also cost is extremely important a perfect example is Muse the drug produced by Vivus. In this day of Managed care the cost is extremely important. HMO's limit the number of pellets members can get per month. Perhaps one of my most important reasons in prescribing a medication is to limit the phone calls because of some minor problem a patient might have. Just remember a physician needs a variety of different drugs for a particular problem. The least invasive drug,as well as the med thatwill do no harm.
