1989 it was already unbearable, John.
I met a young lady who moved there from Oregon and then moved back.

I asked her why the moved back and she told she was attracted by the better possibilities (she was a journalist) and higher income.

But she didn't count with the cost of living. Housing was way too expensive. I think people kept coming until they didn't have the means to go back to where they came from.
