<< HK is freedom rock, some folks maintain.>>

Well TJ you were one of those folks, have you reconsidered? Certainly the more we learn about CCPs surveillance, social controls, restricted travel etc., the more the threat seems likely. Especially when you have a CCP official commenting what’s the fuss about, Hong Kong reverts to China in a few years anyway- or words to that effect.

My hope is that Hong Kong retains its freedom and separation from China and the CCP and thrives as before. But it may prove to be a daunting task judging by CCPs attitudes towards Taiwan which undoubtedly has more of a claim on freedom.

Your attitude appears to be one of laissez faire which is surprising given the stakes and your families history with doctoral governments.
