Buying Greenland would be stupid. "We" already have access to all the resources Greenland has. We also already have a key US air base at Thule Greenland which protects the US but not Denmark.

Example: Hess is an American company which produces oil & gas from the Danish portion of the North Sea - this isn't even Greenland, just Danish territory:

Most mining activity in Greenland has been done by British and Canadian companies. The fact that the territory is Danish doesn't hold them or anyone back.

Your post assumes that if we bought Greenland, it would be closed to outsiders and would be socialized ie owned by the US govt. . Even US resources aren't closed to foreign companies.
