Here in San Antonio, when a flood of asylum applicants arrived, it was a religious coalition who met them at the bus stop and Catholic Charities who shouldered the cost to get them on their way. Corporations didn't help. It was the government who sent them. Only churches helped

I have real SERIOUS issues with For Profit mega churches like Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church. But the amount of good done by churches big and small every day is irreplacable.

Wanting to remove tax exemption from churches is a great way to show the world how privileged you are. It shows that you've never needed a food pantry, catholic hospital, cash to pay a bill or your house fixed after a flood.

The loss of tax exemption by religious institutions would profoundly and deeply impact the poorest of the poor. To advocate it as a weapon in the culture wars shows a stunning indifference to the vulnerable and a detached elitism.
