The spectacle was created by the Starr and the media.
It is not clear what actually happened. But it is clear that since they can not get Clinton on the Watergate matter thay are trying to get him on the womanizing matter. Morally I think they are wrong to do this to the President of the U.S. The spectacle has been manufactured around Clinton by the media and his enemies.

As to the elevated moral position of our leaders, this has always been a myth. Benjamin Franklin was referred to as "boudoir benny". Jefferson a and Washinton had affairs as did Cleveland, Kennedy, Nixon, Johnson, Wilson, Roosevelt and many of our earlier leaders and presidents. One president even had an illegitimate child by the housemaid.

It is self delusion to believe that our leaders are cut from a higher moral cloth than the populace at large. It is better to grasp the reality of our experience with politicians, the military and the legal system.
