Sheba, the very fact you have trouble finding anyone who has
used "Backer" is a warning signal. Tapes for data and tapes
for video are made differently. They are also priced very
differently - with video tapes much cheaper. On video tapes
a bad spot is of no consequence - all you get is an imperfect
picture for a fraction of a second. For data that is not good
enough. You can buy a Sony StorStation or Iomega Ditto with
2GB tape for about $130 if you shop. These units are identical,
because Sony has a license from Iomega. I own one and it STAYS
connected (unlike a VCR) to my PC all the time. I use the
"one-step" feature to back up at any time. While backing up
I can still use the PC to do other things.

Please check it out, your data is worth a good backup system.
