Thanks Zeuspaul

I printed the first version off for my files. Have to see how it changes in the weeks to come. Does the floppie drive come with the tower?

Good start. Thanks.

Re: Checking on SCSI

Preliminary Configuration...Motherboard .. Tyan S1696DLUA dual PII with onboard Adaptec SCSI...

This thread is yielding some nice results!

[Please forgive me if anything mention has been hashed over before. I've got four kids of varying ages with the flu, and my wife and I are beginning to get tunnel-visioned!]

Is the onboard controller equivalent to an Adaptec 2940UW Ultra Wide SCSI? I believe you can get a lot of performance bang for the buck with a UW-SCSI drive, even considering the price. If the idea of this machine is to take in and save real-time market data, a UW-SCSI drive may be critical to your satisfaction.

I've not used this board, but the Supermicro P6DLS has the 2940UW controller on the m-board. I've neither used it nor compared it to the Tyan board you've spec'd out (it does support dual PIIs).

The SAG Electronics site may be of interest to you. They have a good reputation for building to order with high quality parts. They also have an on-line configuation & pricing system. I mean "on-line," not "tell us what you want and we'll have a salesman call you."

SuperG.... second revision

I have opted to break the system into more components so that it is easier to upgrade. The motherboard has been changed to an ABIT LX6. RAM has been upgraded to Corsair grade A SDRAM. The case has been changed to PC Power and Cooling. CD ROM and Floppy have been added. The format for the configuration is now a base configuration with upgrade options. I am considering ESC Technologies to provide, assemble and test the base configuration. (except I don't see the Revolution 3d on their site) whatisnew.com
Has anyone had any experiences good or bad with ESC? They use just in time inventory (according to their web site) They claim no outdated components. This is especially important for the motherboard IMO. Also, nothing blinks on their website!!

Preliminary base configuration
