Hi Elmat,

Atlantic hurricane seasons are recorded and compared based on the number of named storms. The recent addition of tropical storm Nestor raises the total # of named storms for 2019 to 16. If a storm has been "named", that will affect the insurance coverage for property damage.

Hurricanes are a subset of named storms, and tropical storms can occur after the end of the official hurricane season.

This bar chart shows the number of named storms and hurricanes per year from 1851–2018. It looks to me like they're increasing...
