Amazing... well, that's politics for you.

Sometimes, the guys living in ancient times living in a continuous state of war, had to keep things simple so they could use their resources to the best of their ability. So if they had a good defensive wall it was best to have a place imaginatively designed as a weak spot to attract the attention of the enemy. That way, with a bit of luck, you knew where they were going to attack. You just arranged for that area to be the killing zone and then you could dispense with oncoming war and carry on with other business of the day.

I just mention this as Trump & co like defensive walls. Hadrian was another guy with the same approach.

In retrospect this movie scene is fairly lame. Maybe a modern version could put some realism in it.
